What are the differances with Border Collies and Australian Shepherds??
Both are a herding breed, but bred to work differnt kind of stock. They both need a lot of exercise and are not the tyoe of dog to lay around the house. Both need mental and physical exercise.
Border Collie:
Mainly bred to work sheep. They use mainly eye to move the stock. they are more low to the ground and have a very natural down. they are quick. Some can be soft. They are very smart and very willing to please. have a lot of energy and stamina. These dogs need mental and physical exercise. This is not a breed that will just lay around the house. They are bred for instinct and not looks. Can come in a smooth, brush or rough coat and come in many different collors.
Aussie:
Bred mainly to work cattle. Are very loud barkers and use bite to move livestock. They are more heavily built and very upright. They are more lile;y to bite. They can be very hard headed and harder to train. You see this a lot more in breeds bred to work cattle. They usually dock the tails so taht they are not stepped on while working. Also see this with other cattle working dogs. This is a very smart breed as well.
These are not the breeds for everyone in that they are energetic and take a lot of exercise. Both breeds need a job. They exel in dog sports. You can find a lot of these in rescues because people think that they are smart and don't realize all the work they are.

Lots!
First: A Border Collie's coat is different in both color, and thickness. Border Collies come in mostly Black and White, sometimes other colors. Australian Shepherds Come in Blue merel, Tri Colored, etc.
Second: Their personalities. I have never met a Border Collie, but I babysit sometimes for a family who has an Australian SHepherd and they seem more mellow than a Border Collie.
Third: Research for thirds and fourths. =)

My dog is a Border Collie -Australian Shepherd cross. The border collie is very playful, and athletic and very smart. The Australian Shepherd is very intense, focused, and smart. Both breed need lots of attention and stimulation. Both breeds are worth the effort,They are very loving and cuddle at the end of the day if challenged and exercised properly. Best dog I ever had. Lots of work and patience need on your behalf when they are pups for about the first 2 years.

I am 16 and decided to get into agility. I chose an Aussie because I know some Borders who where very aggressive and bit. Aussies have softer, waivier coats, have docked tails, and in my opinoin are more friendly.
My Aussie, Ari is the best, she is a blue Merle and is really smart!!

i have both breeds and they are the greatest dogs for what i do.i am a single rancher of both cattle(sort of, they are yaks)and horses.while the borders are generally around me most of the time the aussies tend to like to stay with the livestock.all of my aussies are natural tailed(some are born with no tail ,some have long tails)and tend to bite the hocks of what they are trying to move(including me)untill they learn a hard lesson and get kicked.my borders on the other hand tend to use the head of what they tend to move by using eye contact and are more friendly to strangers than my aussies(just ask the guy who is missing a pant leg from getting to close to one of my horses without my permission)as for color i have both black and white and tri color but most of my aussies are red and white both types of dogs are intelligent, fast, cunning, loving and my best friends!they have saved me more than once and gotten me in more trouble than any of my other breed dogs.i also have walker treeing coon hounds to keep the rabbit population down.

I've seen a fabulous detailed list that a shelter or rescue put together that really describes the visual differences between Aussies and Border Collies, and I couldn't find it but here's another reference that's not bad:
http://www.bcbordercollies.com/bc/bcdoc.pdf
While the two breeds have a lot in common, their working style is quite a bit different, and Aussies tend to have a bit 'harder' temperament than BCs. Aussies are often a bit more suspicious of strangers, although BCs can certainly be very environmentally sensitive which can look like the same thing.
Physically, Aussies are a bit more square and BCs are a bit more rectangular. That includes the head — Aussies have much more of a "stop" (think forehead) than BCs, whose heads are a bit more streamlined. Some colors are more prevalent in each breed, but there's complete overlap in what colors are possible in each.

First, they are different breeds.
The most obvious difference is that Aussies have a nub of a tail (either born without or docked).
There can be a wide difference in looks within each breed, but generally the Aussie is a heavier, more "substantial" dog in bone and mass, shorter in the body, more blocky in the head. Usually the ears fold down at the skull. Most often they are tri-color or blue merle…though can also be red-tri or red-merle…and sometimes black and white or red and white.
The BC varies more in looks…in size and coat. Often a thinner, leaner dog, longer in body, usually slighter longer and leaner in head. More often black and white…though other colors too. Ears a bit higher to prick…..
Aussies are more "stand upright" in appearance, where as BCs tend to stand with a low slung appearance..head held lower…..sounds silly I know….
In the grand scheme of "dogdom" both are fairly similar in temperament type, being supreme herding breeds….in the small scheme of herding breeds, they definitely have their differences in temperament.
Do searches on the web……
