Are all Schipperke’s and Australian Shepherds born tailless?
I've been wondering about something. I see pictures of some schipperke's and australian shepherds that have tails, and some that don't. Do people dock them? Or are some just born with tails and others aren't?
Some are born with the natural bob tail gene and some are docked. In the Australian Shepherd, it appears that this is a dominant gene and lethal in utero in a homozygous form (2 copies of the gene) much like it is in Pembroke Corgis.

I'm pretty sure all dogs are born with tails and they end up docked.
Although I'm not 100% sure

No, there docked

I don't know much about Schipperkes, but Aussies can be born bobbed or with long tails.
Polish Lowlands are the same way. Bobtails and longtails occur in the same litter.

I can't answer about Schipperke's. Some Aussie's are born with tails, some with 3/4 tails, and some are naturally bobbed. Aussie may have their tails docked, or left as is.

The aussie breed standard says that "He has a docked or natural bobbed tail. " the schipperke breed standard says " The croup is broad and well-rounded with the tail docked."
