Some Aussies are born with naturally short bobbed tails, others with full long tails, and others with natural partial bobs, where the tail is midlength and appears stubby. Most breeders dock the tails when the puppies are born.

More than likely you will have to have them docked. I breed Jack Russell Terriors and they are all born with long tails. We dock the dogs tails ourself. We use docking bands. They are like the bands farmers use to castrate bulls. You can place them on the dogs tail, it cuts the circulation, and the tails just fall right off. You have to do this within days of birth. You also need to know the exact area to place the band to dock. I hate doing this. I usually have the breeder of my female do it. But I've left the tails on two of my dogs and I think they're still cute as heck because the tail curls up like a curly fry.

Some are born stump tailed while others are born with full length tails. Me and my sister each bought a pup from the same litter. The pup I bought had a stump tail, while the other had a full tail. They can be born either way.

Both. Although if you breed a natural bobtail with another natural bob then the offspring may have spinal problems. But some are born with the tail (like my doggie Xyler who still has his tail) and have them docked.
