    They are bread for the same reason, but they are differetn. An Australian Shepard is normally gray and black and white, with short hair, while a border collie is white and black with long hair

    Both are herding dogs and require alot of activity to keep healthy. Border Collies originated in the border region between Scotland and Wales, while the Australian Shepard originated in the U.S. The aussies come in many different colors, like the BC, such as black, white, red, merled and combinations. Aussies generally have their tailed "cropped." The breed standard for both, as defined by the AKC, has resulted in very pretty and stupid dogs. Also considerable genetic defects such as blindness and deafness.

    Good breeders, who breed for performance and intelligence, rather than the AKC standard, produce ultimate puppies.
