Can I enter my non-registered purebred Australian Shepherd in a dog show?

I know he is a purebred because I have studied the breed and met his parents when I got him but they weren't registered (I don't think). He came from a farm for $100 but my dog would beat the other Australian Shepherds, I just know it!

Your local shelter or dog club may sponsor an open show. Ask at your neighborhood pet supply or a groomer's shop.
We have 2 per year here in our tiny town. They are sometimes called fun matches.

He could do agility, but you have to have papers to show a dog.

A dog is not considered a purebred unless you have papers to prove it. He may very well be pure Aussie, but without the proof, he can't be registered or shown.

It depends on the dog show. If it's a small community dog show, then it's possible.

But the big time dog shows, they have to be registered with papers. Sorry.

Your dog would probably be more interested in agility competitions anyways!

No u have to register if ur going to show CKC is easier to register with but AKC is better to most people
If u register CKC u can only show at CKC shows Same w/AKC
To register CKC all u need is 3 pics i guess we r going to have mine registered both ckc and akc akc u need a vet and a judge of ur group to say she/he is purebred is what some one told me try searching the AKC site to find out

Just because you have met the parents does not mean the dog is a purebred. Chances are that you would have paid a lot more than $100 if it was pure bred. Some breeders sell puppies cheaper, but only if they are not show quality, so it could be that even though you think your dog is tops it may not be. To enter a dog in a show (even agility) it needs to meet the breed standards, and be registered. You will need to provide papers proving that your dogs, it's parents and grandparents were all registered as purebreds. Even smaller shows are strict on this. You can't call your dog purebred without this document.

There are sometimes open events, in which any dog can enter, but are few and far between.

If you really want to show your dog, go back to the farm and get the papers. You wont get far without them.

Have spoken to a friend who breeds Australian Shepards and she sells them for $1600. So either you were conned or got a really good bargain.

He can't enter any show sanctioned by an organization, unless he is registered with that organization. If you are sure he is purebred, you can get a limited registration with AKC that will make him eligible for all the competitions sanctioned by AKC, provided he has the training to compete.

Conformation shows are for EVALUATING *BREEDING STOCK*…not pet-crap.

You wouldn't recognize a SHOW QUALITY speciman if it BIT you.
