I used to have one i named zeebo he was one of the best most loyal dogs i ever had... Just keep doing what your doing. they learn very easily by repetition like most dogs. Zeebo kinda adopted me, one day he showed up on my porch and we tried to find his owner but we were unsuccessful so we took him in and im so glad we did. He was so smart he would talk to me in his howl like bark it was very sweet, he was very protective through my pregnancy too. altough they usually are very loyal to 1 person, when my boyfriend and i split he would visit my ex everyother weekend, that worked for a very short time and when i couldnt care for him and he started to live w/ my ex full time he ended up running away from him and im sure it was to try to find me, so always keep that in mind, you could litterally brake there heart so be careful... lots of luck to you..
References :
personal experience

Australian Cattle Dogs *are herding dogs & therefore very active! You will need to have a "job" for her to do! If you do not live on a farm you may find her trying to herd her family members!
References :
If you want to see her do something totally cool, take her out for herding lessons and instinct test when she's old enuf! Nothing like seeing that instinct kick in and watching your dog do what she was bred to do!
References :
I have two, a six year old red merle female, and a 1 year old red tri male. They are both working dogs and pets. My neighbors down the road have a couple of kids, and the kids play sometime in the same pasture that has our cows in it. (there is a creek that the kids love to play in) Every time the kids come into the pasture, the female dog stays between those kids and the bull that stays in that pasture. It is amazing to see. They are somewhat defensive if other dogs come around, and let me know when someone is coming up the drive way, they won't go after the person, but make sure that I know someone is here. They are great dogs.
References :
They are the best dog my family has ever had. Just make sure you socialize her well. They can be protective and skittish unless they are exposed to lots of people. They are so smart, they train very easily. Just make sure you're the Alpha in the family. Teach them to sit and stay quite early. When going for a walk, you go out the door first. This tells them you are the boss. They are so loving. We call them velcro dogs as they alway want to stick by you.
References :
Aussie Shepherds are great... but they're REALLY active dogs - so it's hard to keep up with the level of activity they like. (My friend has one & we wore our arms out playing ball with her one afternoon).
