   Actually the Aussie …
   Actually the Aussie is doing a great job. He is relieving pressure on the stock in order to keep them moving forward at an even pace. If you notice, at the beginning the Aussie was able to get the geese perfectly through the first obstacle w/o undue stress on the stock and the correct direction as well as through the second obstacle (gate). Where you may think he is bored (sniffing) is his way of relieving pressure.

   Actually, yes. I have geese (Chinese), a variety of ducks breeds, sheep and cattle. Each require a different type of working finesse. Some geese are combative (Chinese). There are times when I need to separate out the geese from the ducks and a dog which has the training and instinct/ability to work them is a the equivalent of ten men, imo. Grain, feed doesn’t always work in moving stock – especially when they don’t want to go where you want them to.

   I love herding breeds and like that herding skills are being maintained but….does anyone ever really need their geese herded?
