shelties and australian shepherds??
How tall are Australian Shepherds? Are they as tall as a sheltie or higher?
What about mini Australian Shepherds? are they also as tall as a sheltie?
Australian Shepherds: 18"-23"
Shetland Sheepdogs: 13"-16"
There is no such thing as a "mini aussie". They are a marketing gimmick and bred unscrupulously. If you want a small herding breed, get a Sheltie or another legitimate breed. A "mini/toy aussie" is not a legitimate breed. Aussies come in one size.

Australian Shepherds are taller than Shetland Sheepdogs, I don't know much about Mini Aussies…
They have breed standards on these websites:

Australian Shepherds stand from 17-20 inches tall, while Shelties stand at about 14 inches. I'm not sure about mini Australian Shepherds though, sorry.

Australian shepherds are medium sized dogs and quite a bit bigger than shelties.

Not sure what a mini Australian Shepherd is? If it's like mini and teacups of other breeds, it is a mix that they really don't know how big they will be.

The Miniature Australian Shepherd is a real breed. The standard says that their height should be between 14-18 inches at the shoulder.
The Australian Shepherd standards says that females should be between 18-21 inches and males from 20-23 inches tall. However, a smaller size is not among the disqualifying factors.
The Shetland Sheepdog standard says the dog should be between 13-16 inches at the shoulder. So, there is some overlap between the Mini Aussie and the Sheltie.
All can be great pets — but they're herding dogs, so that means they need to be kept busy. If you're considering any of these breeds, think strongly about doing agility! It'll keep both of you in terrific shape!

First, there is NO such thing as a "mini" Australian Shepherd. A reputable breeder of Aussies will confirm this. Shelties vary greatly in size, but in general, the Aussie is a larger breed than the Sheltie.
