Tell me everything you know about Australian Shepherds?
I have a third generation mutt with Aussie Shepherd in her, and physically she takes after that breed more than anything else. How big do they get? What is the usual temperament? What makes them different from other breeds?
Already I'm finding her easy to train. At seven weeks old she is answering to her name and almost reliably housebroken.
Anything I should know?
These dogs are VERY smart and affectionate. They are loyal to owners. And very easy to train. They need LOTS of excercise and lots of cuddle time. Depending on the type of coat the need to be brushed atleast e/o day. Also I would recommend trainning to keep from unwanted chewing. This is a dog that needs to be kept busy. Balls and frisbee are great. Also an aussie depending on sex can be upto about 65 lbs females are generally around 40. However I've seen an 85lb male and my femle is 52lbs.

well it depends on how much aussie she has in her
one of my dogs is a aussie and lab mix and he acts nothing like an aussie and hes a lot bigger than they usually get
so unless you have a 100% purebred dog then you can't really tell how big their going to get and maybe what they will act like
sorry

they are good dogs, should not get any bigger than up to your knee and that is big, they are good with kids, hyper and need running room or walked. They are good herding dogs we used them on the dairy to bring in cows. They are smart as heck, and their temperament is good.
good luck.. I AM

They are around 50 to 60lbs.
They do not do well to harsh training. You cannot chase them as they will see it as a game but instead if you get them out of your hand…I found walking away helps them to understand more than getting mad at them
they can be aggressive
They get bored if they don't have a job. They will chew or bark when bored.
But just because she resembles one physically doesn't mean she mentally is like one.

awww aussies are GREAT!!!
they're brilliant so always have something for her to do or else she'll find her own
they get to be medium-size ish but no larger than a typical lab and no smaller than a sheltie-but i've seen lots of sizes
they have GREAT temperaments!!! seriously these are the nicest dogs ever. They do like to herd you and may be a little snappish (easy to train out of them), but they are SWEET little angels.
They're meant to be hard working herders!!! make sure you give them the exercise they were meant to have! running is great! A simple walk won't suffice so if you don't have a fenced yard for her to run around in, try finding a local dog park.
DON'T LET THEM OUT WITHOUT A LEASH. no dog should be left without a leash, but they will try to herd smaller animals and the neighbors WILL NOT LIKE IT. They also love to run! They're very sneaky.
Congrats on your new girl! She's gonna make you VERY happy!

My lovable ball of Australian Shepherd fluff-Chip
Exercise her every day in abundance and she will work, obey, and love you for life.
Aussies can be on the larger size of 50 pounds, to the smaller bouncier size of 30 pounds. I have two aussies, who are both incredible active. My female, Shyre, is 41 pounds, and my male, Myles Rann, who is still a puppy, will be around 35 pounds at full maturity.
With a mix, you understand, it is very difficult to determine.
But even with a bit of Aussie, and as you say, predominately aussie, they need more than just a bit of exercise daily. They need a job to do.
Their temperament will be easy-going IF AND ONLY IF they are given a job to do and plenty of activities. If you do not provide this, they will run amock and destroy things as an outlet for their energy.
They are very unique from other breeds, as they are incredibly smart and willing to please you, if you give them what they need, being exercise and work.
They love to move and jump and bounce and work really hard.
I hope you did your research before bringing home your dog, even if it is a mixed breed.
And I certainly hope you did not get your dog from a designer mutt breeder!

An Australian shepherd is about the size of a border collie. We used to have one who herded our goats. I never had to teach her. She had all the instincts from the time she was a small pup. The goats would go out on the hill in the morning, the dog would come down a few times a day. In the afternoon, when it was time for the goats to come in, I just had to say goats and she would take off and bring them back in about 5 minutes. We had a good sized rock farm…….lol She was a very sweet dog, but protective of us and the goats.

Aussies are wonderful dogs, both of mine are part Aussie. They are very intelligent and need lots of exercise. Some can get aggressive but with the right training it should be fine. They are natural working cow dogs so they need a job to keep them happy.
