what are some mind stimulation games/activities for australian shepherds?
I just bought an Australian Shepherd 2 weeks ago. He is a little over two months old. From what i understand, they need constant mind stimulation. Does anyone know activities or games that could do that? Thanks!
Constantly teach him tricks
Get three cups and hide a treat under one and have him find it
Teach the stay command then play hide and seek. You hide and when you tell him to break the command he finds you.
Set up hurdles in the backyard and teach he how to do the course.
My dog loves all of these!!

He might be slightly young yet but…
Hide his favourite toy in the yard, out of sight, and then get him to find it. Or hide the dried food pellets all over the yard and get him to seek them out. My Springer used to love these games. I put him inside whilst I hid everything then got him out and told him 'SEEK!' The first few times you let him see so he gets the idea.
Then you can progress to him finding people or even clean handkerchiefs with a scent on them.
My Springer loved this one. "Give it to Daddy" I would give him something to take to my husband. You start with small distances and then increase them when he's confident and good at it. You can start with something inedible but then progress to something edible and test his self control.
I tell you there comes a point when he could probably go across town with something! In fact before the telephone dogs were used to take messages and even money from town to town, they were known as Butcher's dogs. Great fun! Good luck! I wish I could help you!
