When do Australian Shepherds’ long hair come in?

I have a male Australian Shepherd and he is about 5 months old now, and he’s getting some of his “big boy” fur now, but it is still short hair…and I was just wondering at what about what age does an Australian Shepherd have that long haired look?

ours never did! we have a 2.5 y/o aussie and her longest hair is her mane (not even her chest, just her cheeks) and what we call her butt hair lol. the back of her legs have little poofs, but she never got the really long/thick hair that aussies usually get. she has more of a border collie coat. its really funny because its all really soft, except right at the end of her back, there is a patch thats courser. THATS her aussie spot.

but, if its going to happen, it will happen usually between 1-2 y/o, when they become adults and they will have their final shape
