Because the Basque sheepherders brought them with them when they came to America from Australia.
They had originated in the Basque country, but the Basque shepherds moved to Australia for the vast grasses, and then came to America with their dogs.

DUH THEY DID NOT ORIGINATE IN SPAIN The alsatian did I think. Go to a book store and look at a book on dog breeds. It will give you all the info you need, or Heaven Forbid GOOGLE IT~~~
