I have one, and she is the sweetest, cutest, and most energetic puppy anyone could ever meet. She has a nub for a tail and when ever she is happy, her entire back end shakes, if she sees anything interesting, her nub wags like a finger, back and forth.
She has a white stripe going down her face and has a white natural collar. She is most black with freckles on her nose. you can see them because the fur is white above the freckles. She has copper on the front of all legs and white little natural fur boots. She has the copper eyes above her real eyes. She has brown eyes.
If she sees anyone trying to hurt me, she goes and bites their arm, but she knows when they are playing and when we are faking. We give her plenty of attention.
Australian Cattle Dogs *are herding dogs & therefore very active! You will need to have a "job" for her to do! If you do not live on a farm you may find her trying to herd her family members!
trust me I have done soo much research about aussies i know they are not from Australia I have wanted one since i was seven and go to dog shows as often as I can jjust to see an aussie : )
I was thinking when i am older i could move to Brazil ( I love South America) with my dream dog.But I am not sure if they handle it?
Air conditioning is a great invention.
Between water, shade, air conditioning, and NOT shaving the coat (as fur keeps dogs both warm and cool) an Aussie should be fine in a warmer area.
There's far more things to worry about in deciding if an Aussie is right for you or not than just the average temperature of where you live.
Add:
whiplash4ever- Australian Shepherds were (ironically) actually bred in the United States and not Australia though i'm sure there are Australian Shepherds living in Australia.

I just bought an Australian Shepherd 2 weeks ago. He is a little over two months old. From what i understand, they need constant mind stimulation. Does anyone know activities or games that could do that? Thanks!
Constantly teach him tricks
Get three cups and hide a treat under one and have him find it
Teach the stay command then play hide and seek. You hide and when you tell him to break the command he finds you.
Set up hurdles in the backyard and teach he how to do the course.
My dog loves all of these!!
Okay, so I was wondering about what they need for their coats. Like how some breeds need to be sent to the groomer to get their coats trimmed and what-not.
So what about Aussies? What do they need done? (Besides the actual combing and bathing). How much does it usually cost? How often?
Thanks!
The ONLY "trimming" ever done is tidying the feet & crotch!
NEVER buzz an Aussie! You'll RUIN the coat!
i know that australian shepherds are not from australia, but im wondering why people call then australian shepherds if they're not from australia?
they did NOT originate in australia, for u ppl stupid enuf to say that even tho i said they do not come from australia! im not talking to the ppl who gave smart answers, im talking to the ppl who just said theyre from australia! (*cough, cough* CHACHALE)
"The Australian Shepherd is a breed of herding dog that was developed on ranches in the Western United States. Despite its name, the breed, commonly known as an Aussie, did not in fact originate in Australia.[1][2] They acquired their name because of its association with Basque sheepherders who came to the United States from Australia"

Hi, I answered this yesterday but don't see my answer listed. So, I'll try again. I want to nominate me - my name is Tucker and I am an "amazingly beautiful" Aussie (if I do say so myself). Check out pictures of me at the sites below. What are you going to do with the pictures anyway? (I can get you high quality copies of any of the photos.)
i hear many different things about australian shepherds. i hear they're great with kids, i hear they're terrible with them. i hear they're calm, i hear they're hyper. i hear they're quiet, i hear they're yappy. how are they with preschoolers? how are they with older kids? how would they do with a backyard that opens to woods? also, i know that there isn't an official miniature australian shepherd, but how are those? all details are appreciated. thanks.
I have an Australian Sheppard, I love him too death.
Every day when I get home he greets me
like he hasn't seen me in years, he some times smiles
which looks like he is growling. He tends
to nip the back of your legs as your walking out the door
as if he does not want you too leave. He is very territorial,
for some reason, he seems to bark at men more.
I recently learned that if you don't socialize them when
there are just pups they will have social problems (when meeting
new people tend to bark alot). But all in all they are loving dogs.
I have a 2 year old Australian Shepherd who I show in confirmation shows. If it is late in the day and hot outside he has no energy in the ring. What can I give him to help this situation?
Ha ha, I used to have this issue with my male Sheltie. Wanna know what worked really good?
I had a female in heat. I wiped a piece of tissue on her vulva and kept it safe in a baggy far from my male until the show ring. Just before we stepped in, I let him sniff the tissue.
What boy wouldn't perk up to that scent?
Works great, isn't bad for his system and there are no rules against it.

im wondering because Im looking at getting a dog, and i had an australian shepherd when I was little, but I don't remember how big it got.
Females typically get 40-60 pounds, and males 50-70.
Please do NOT buy into the "mini" or "toy" ideas, as another posters stated. "Minis" are not recognized, and are understandard dogs bred by backyard breeders. They are also often mixed breeds.
